Letter From The President

“Yes, We Can!” In Action

Dear Friends,

As a logistics provider, we have little control over the volatile cost of fuel or the growing problems of highway congestion. We can, however, put our resources to work in mitigating these issues as much as possible and provide supply chain solutions wherever and whenever we can. The announcement of our new Chicago Consolidation Center is the most visible example of Hanson Logistics resources at work in the cold supply chain.

Greg Hanson

Our announcement marks the end to years of planning and the beginning of a new service level. After extensive site analysis of the greater Chicago area, we selected Hobart, Indiana, due its favorable location and business climate. Being located east of Chicago (vs. central or west Chicago) is contrary to existing 3PL or PRW locations. Our decision, however, is based on easily reaching the city and outlying region while also serving our Eastern US distribution area without driving through the Chicago bottleneck. We believe this is a competitive advantage for Hanson and for our customers.

At 14,500,000 cu. ft., the Chicago Consolidation Center facility will, in effect, grow our capacity by 50% and our regional network to 8 facilities. However, this new facility is designed for consolidation, so ‘capacity’ should not be viewed in terms of storage, but rather in throughput; our ability to drive down costs by optimizing order fill rates and collaborating on full truckloads. Consolidated delivery of perishables is a growing requirement of many retailers; a requirement that squeezes mid-tier manufacturers unable to build truckloads of their own products. We intend to build that community of critical mass in the greater Chicagoland area. We will support this program not only with a new facility, but also world-class supply chain technology, transportation services, and of course Hanson “Yes, We Can!” service.

I must add that it is the “Yes, We Can!” attitude of all the Hanson team members that gives us the confidence to move forward with this ambitious project. I look forward to keeping you updated on our progress. In the meantime, if we can be of service, please contact me at your earliest convenience.

Respectfully,

Gregory P. Hanson
President & CEO
